Woo hoo we saw 3 rockfalls on the volcano today!! The lava dome is so big now, that when more magma pushes up, the edge to the SW of the crater collapses forming rockfalls. The dome rock at the edges has cooled and solidified hence it forms rockfalls rather than a lava flow. Carlos was telling me it's common now to see a few rockfalls in a row due to pulses of magma input. Cool!

We saw some cracking views of the volcano on our travels today. Again we were looking at debris avalanche deposits. At one place we found a carbonised tree in the deposit. We took a sample so we'll be able to date the deposit to within 50-100 years using radiocarbon dating.
